“Other,” as both noun and verb, has historically signified the classification of BIPOC communities as lesser human beings.

With the final new moon of 2021 rising, this ritual intervention reclaimed the word to mean that which is abundant and far-reaching for those of us who have felt “othered” in our own country.

Staged at this memorial, the ritual questioned how the governing powers have and have not upheld people’s unalienable rights to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
